Ventilation and Cooling Equipment
American Coolair Corporation
Exhaust Fans
American Coolair Corporation is the oldest manufacturer of efficient, dependable, long-lasting ventilation and cooling equipment specifically designed for the greenhouse, hog, poultry and restaurant industries. American Coolair Corporation exhaust fans utilize 6 steel die formed, baked-powder epoxy-coated, painted blades individually mounted in a heavy gauge, galvanized steel slope wall housing with an automatic gravity-operated aluminum shutter, PVC coated wire outside guard, and optional inside guard. These are the strongest built fan frames with the most dependable motors available at very competitive prices. Single-speed motors are dual voltage 115V / 230V. Two-speed motors are available. Specify 115V or 230V for two-speed motors.
To provide the optimal level of ventilation in your greenhouse, we size exhaust fans by considering the static pressure loss of your new or existing greenhouse. The crops grown, equipment used, and other factors affect a greenhouse’s static pressure loss.
While selecting which exhaust fans to use on greenhouse projects, we calculate which fans have the most appropriate diameters and horsepower motors to move the correct amount of air. In the process of making these calculations, we make every effort to use only single-speed 115V motors, which last longer and are much more dependable than two-speed 115V motors. Additionally, we typically ask American Coolair Corporation to outfit our exhaust fans with only 1 horsepower motors, which have longer operating lives than smaller motors. By pairing a 1 horsepower motor with pulleys designed for a smaller motor, we can make a 1 horsepower motor operate like a smaller motor. Although a 1 horsepower motor typically costs approximately $5 more than a smaller motor, this small investment will pay large, long-term dividends. If our Customer is willing to use 230V exhaust fans, this equipment will be more efficient and dependable. Since 230V small motors and two-speed motors are very dependable, we prefer to use them.
Our entire industry has experienced difficulty with two-speed 115V motors and 115V motors smaller than 1 horsepower having shorter lives. A growing number of architects have adopted policies banning the use of two-speed 115V motors associated with greenhouses and similar projects due to this common problem. The fact that exhaust fan motors smaller than 1 horsepower and two-speed 115V motors have shorter lives is a result of how these motors are manufactured and is not representative of American Coolair Corporation’s high standards. American Coolair Corporation and its competitors do not manufacture their own motors. American Coolair Corporation uses high quality, commercial motors that perform as well as, if not better than, their competitors’ motors. For additional information, contact our office.

Motorized Aluminum Air Inlet Shutters
American Coolair Corporation’s motorized aluminum air inlet shutters are designed for long-term, low-maintenance operation. They feature a sturdy aluminum frame, aluminum blades, aluminum reinforcing brackets, and nylon bearings on all movable linkage. The air inlet shutters are fully automatic and come standard with a motor to automatically open shutters when activated by a thermostat or an automated equipment control system.
We use the actual opening area of shutters to calculate the correct size and number of air inlet shutters required for any ventilation or cooling application. This ensures that the incoming air speed is not too slow or too fast.

Evaporative Cooling Systems
An American Coolair Corporation evaporative cooling system may be used to cool your greenhouse during periods of intense sunlight. Air is pulled through the evaporative cooling system, which contains pads saturated with water. As water evaporates from the pads, the incoming air temperature is usually cooled to approximately 82 degrees Fahrenheit on a 100 degree day in a typical, low altitude Midwest location.
American Coolair Corporation’s PVC open-top evaporative cooling system does not require an external sump tank. The system allows easy access to distribution system components.
